Consider the following scenario:

At work one day you decide to eat lunch at your desk. As part of your lunch break you take out your newly purchased copy of Steven Baskerville's 'Taken Into Custody: The War Against Fatherhood, Marriage, and the Family'.

Sitting at the desk next to you the woman, who unknown to you is a strident feminist, leans over, notices the title and author and immediately demands that you close the book, remove it from the premises, and never bring it back. You, of course, ignore her, and continue to read while eating your lunch of a single baloney sandwich and a glass of tap water, which, because you are a divorced father paying ranso ....er support, is all that you can afford.

The next day at lunch you again consume your baloney sandwich while reading the same book. The woman at the next desk leans over and again makes the same demands which, again you ignore.

The third day, just after you enter the office you are accosted by two burly policewomen who immediately seize and search your briefcase. They find 'The Book' and you are immediately arrested and charged with workplace violence against the woman who sits next to you.

Of course you are convicted of workplace violence when this comes to court and you now have a record as a violent offender - for reading a book at lunch.

Think this is far-fetched. Nope. In fact it is now the law in Canada.

Read the news article below and be afraid. This article and this new law seems to have been slipped in under the radar and essentially unnoticed but it is every bit as insidious as I have portrayed it.

Note the statement: 'The legislation covers all forms of violence, including psychological harassment.'

So, if the woman sitting next to you claims psychological harassment because you continue to read a book that she claims is misogynist, why then, you are guilty of 'workplace violence' because psychological harassment is now considered to be committing violence against someone, and, of course, psychological harassment is whatever the woman defines it to be.

Be afraid. Be very afraid - I see the statistics concerning 'workplace violence against women' taking a huge upward jump in the near future.

Of course, this means you definitely don't want to read Mark Steyn's book or McLean's magazine at work either.
