BRADFORD, England, Oct. 1 : Three teenage girls
in England have been convicted of manslaughter for bullying another teen with
a heart condition who collapsed and died.
The London Telegraph reported Claire Carey, 18, and two younger girls -- one
17 and the other 15, who could not be identified because of their ages --
cried as a jury found them guilty. They are scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 19.
After the verdict, Alan Wellock talked of how he and his wife, Jackie, watched
helplessly as their daughter Aimee died just outside their home in the village
of Allerton near Bradford. Investigators say the three defendants had been
drinking when they approached Aimee and two friends, who had gone for a walk,
calling them names and demanding cigarettes. The verbal taunts escalated into
punching and kicking.
"The young people responsible for Aimee's death showed no remorse throughout
the trial," Wellock said. "There were even times when they were asked by the
judge to stop talking and giggling. We feel very bitter and angry."
MONROE-A Green County woman has confessed to the shooting death of an elderly
Janesville woman, but a large amount of cash that police believe the victim
was carrying is still missing.
Mary A. Sidoff, 23, of N6644 County N, Monticello, is accused of shooting to
death 88-year-old Ardelle L. Sturzenegger, who had been living at the Super 8
Motel in Janesville.
It is Green County's first murder in at least 13 years.
In August, Janesville police found more than $60,000 cash in Sturzenegger's
purse after she fell asleep at a Janesville store.
Investigators believe she had a large amount of cash Oct. 11, the day she
disappeared.
Sidoff, while accompanied by a Milwaukee attorney, turned herself in to Green
County authorities Saturday. "She confessed to shooting the victim in the head
with a handgun,'' Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said at a press
conference this morning.
Sidoff was arrested on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide and is
scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday.
Roderick said Sidoff's husband, David, is a "person of interest'' in the
investigation. He said David Sidoff also has an attorney, and detectives have
an appointment to meet with David "in the near future.''
The Sidoffs' two sons, about 1 and 3 years old, are staying with relatives,
Roderick said.
Sturzenegger was last seen in Janesville leaving the Super 8 Motel in her car
on the morning of Oct. 11.
A desk clerk at the hotel called Janesville police that night, saying that
Sturzenegger had not returned.
Nine days later, Janesville police learned that Sturzenegger had left the
hotel Oct. 11 to meet somebody in Monroe.
A check of the hotel's phone records revealed that Sturzenegger had been
contacted by Sidoff, Janesville police Detective Erik Goth said.
On Friday, Janesville police issued a press release seeking the public's help
in locating Sturzenegger. That same day, investigators went to the farm that
the Sidoffs rent west of Monticello.
Nobody was home, but police found Sturzenegger's white Oldsmobile, Roderick
said.
Investigators started the process of obtaining search warrants to search the
property.
While at the farm, Green County authorities received a call from Milwaukee
attorney Dennis Coffey, who told police that there had been a homicide in
Green County and that he represented the person responsible, Roderick said.
Later, during a conference call between Coffey and a Green County prosecutor,
investigators learned that Sturzenegger had been killed, wrapped in a tarp and
hidden on the property.
"Friday night and Saturday morning, we searched the vicinity where the
attorney described the body was located, and it was found,'' Roderick said.
Sturzenegger's body was found wrapped in a tarp in a field near an
outbuilding. An autopsy later confirmed that she was killed by a single
gunshot to the back of the head.
Investigators found the handgun believed to be the murder weapon in the
farmhouse.
Roderick said the motive for the murder is not clear, and he declined to
speculate whether Sidoff was after Sturzenegger's money.
Goth said social services was contacted in August after police found $60,000
in Sturzenegger's purse.
"Assessments were made about her mental health, and she was free and able to
make her own decisions based on professional assessments,'' Goth said.
Roderick said the Sidoffs have lived in Green County since spring.
Patsy Breunig and her husband, Brad, rented two different homes to the Sidoffs
in Sauk City over about five years until the Sidoffs moved to Monticello in
April.
"We left on good terms other than that they owed $900 in utilities,'' Patsy
Breunig said when contacted by phone.
"They kept saying, 'Yep, we've talked to the utilities, and we'll pay it,' but
all summer long, it accumulates, and then they never returned our calls.''
In August, the Breunigs filed a small claims action against the Sidoffs in
Sauk County Court.
It is among five small claims actions filed against the Sidoffs in three
counties.
Breunig said she recently was called by a woman who worked with Mary Sidoff at
a Madison hospital. The woman said she had loaned Mary $1,500 but had not been
repaid.
"I know they were desperate,'' Breunig said. "It seemed like everything was
being repossessed.''
Court records indicate the Sidoffs' pick-up truck was repossessed Sept. 23 and
their motorcycle Oct. 3.
On Oct. 11, the last day Sturzenegger was seen alive in Janesville, a $359
judgment was filed against the Sidoffs in Dane County Court in favor of
Madison Cash Express. That same day, Amcore Bank in Rockford, Ill., filed a
small claims action against the Sidoffs in Green County Court.
On Oct. 12, Green County prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against Mary
Sidoff, accusing her of writing a worthless check June 14.
Breunig said Mary Sidoff was always very friendly.
"The house was always a mess, but some renters are like that,'' Breunig said.
"They wanted to go to Monticello because it was a farm where they could have
horses.''
A Sioux Falls woman who's accused of stabbing her husband Sunday has been
arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.
Sioux Falls police arrested Cecelia W. Smallwood, 29, late Sunday at her home
at 2009 E. Nye St., Apt. 1. Police were called to the residence shortly before
7:30 p.m. after a report of a stabbing. The victim suffered two stab wounds in
a thigh. The weapon was a 12-inch kitchen knife.
Police think Smallwood climbed out a bedroom window and fled. Police received
another phone call 90 minutes later that Smallwood had returned home. They
returned to the site and arrested her.
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Police are looking for a woman believed to have
robbed two Olympia banks this month.
In both cases, a woman wearing sunglasses approached a teller with a note
demanding money, quickly collected cash and fled, police said.
The woman is between 20 and 30 years old, has a dark complexion and a bump on
the bridge of her nose.
She was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt in a robbery Oct. 12 at the West
Coast Bank on Harrison Avenue Northwest. She wore a brown hat and a dark
jacket in a robbery last Friday at a Bank of America branch on Black Lake
Boulevard Southwest.

COQUILLE — One of four teenage girls accused of
assaulting a 15-year-old Marshfield High School student at Mingus Park earlier
this month has admitted to three counts in the acts. The girl, who turned 15 years of age on Monday, also appeared with an attorney
that day in juvenile court before Coos County Circuit Judge Richard Barron.
She had been charged in connection with attack in which police say a student
was lured off campus to Mingus Park on Oct. 5, during an assembly. At the park,
the four suspects were reported to have assaulted the other teen, including
setting her hair on fire, ripping her clothing and pushing her into Mingus
Lake.
According to court records, the first girl to appear in court had been charged
with one count each of third-degree assault, recklessly endangering another,
menacing, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts
of coercion. In the agreement, the thin girl clad in faded jeans and a black
jacket admitted to the assault (C felony), recklessly endangering and menacing
charges, both class A misdemeanors. “Has anyone threatened you or promised you anything to get you to do that?”
Barron asked the girl of her decision. “No,” she said. The other counts were dismissed. Barron told the blonde-haired teen she could
face a sentence of up to seven years at the state training school in Salem. He
then went on to explain and asked whether she understood the counts against
her. She replied that she did. “Are all of them true?” he asked. “Yes.” The court set the girl’s disposition or sentencing hearing for 3 p.m. on Nov.
14. Almost an hour later, two more of the girls appeared before Barron. However,
attorneys representing the 14-year-olds asked for the judge to continue the
hearing since they had not had time to discuss the plea offers with their
clients. They are scheduled to return to court on Oct. 31. They face similar
charges. A fourth girl, who is 15, also faces similar counts except that she had been
charged with attempted kidnapping. She, too, is due in juvenile court at 9:30
a.m. on Oct. 31. None of the charges rate as Measure 11 counts in this instance and are not
being handled as adult crimes. Therefore, while the names are in public court
record, The World will not publish them. However, the assault, kidnap and
weapon charges all are felony counts. As to the four teenage girls’ status, initially the girls were suspended and
scheduled to appear before a school expulsion hearings officer. School
officials have refused to indicate the outcome or their school status. “I can’t release any information,” Marshfield Principal Bob Line said Monday. According to Coos Bay School District attorney David Dorsey of Coos Bay, such
information would be considered personally identifiable and thus, in his
opinion, not public record. Under Coos Bay School District policy some directory information on students
may be released, including student dates of attendance. As to Marshfield’s policies on bullying and harassment, Line said the school
will continue to use its program in place for tracking student problems. He
added that the school expected a possible increase in counseling calls
following the Mingus Park incident, but that didn’t happen. He reiterated that
the campus is closed while school is in session, except during lunch, and
students should be aware of that. “We still encourage kids not to leave campus without permission,” he said.
KITAKYUSHU — A woman on Tuesday appealed a district court ruling last month
that sentenced her to death for killing six people from 1996 to 1998 in
Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, in conspiracy with her common-law husband, her
lawyers said.
Junko Ogata, 43, appealed the ruling handed down by the Fukuoka High Court on
Sept 28 for killing the six, including her mother and inflicting injuries that
resulted in the death of her father at an apartment, in conspiracy with
Futoshi Matsunaga, 44. The court also sentenced Matsunaga to death on Sept.
28, who appealed immediately after the ruling.
YOKOHAMA — Police arrested a 31-year-old woman Sunday for allegedly throwing
her 14-month-old daughter out the window from her fifth-floor apartment in
Yokohama on Saturday night, causing the infant to sustain injures.
The Kanagawa prefectural police identified the woman as Yuko Tsuchiya and the
girl, as Akane.
The incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. The baby fell 12 meters to the
ground, which was unpaved, but the fall was apparently cushioned by a tree
branch, according to investigators.
"I have had difficulty raising the child," Tsuchiya was quoted as telling the
investigators. "I said to myself that it is better to commit suicide after
killing my daughter."
The police said Tsuchiya became angry with Akane, who did not stop crying
after being scolded for making mischief.
Tsuchiya's 33-year-old husband was at work during the incident. Tsuchiya
called an ambulance after throwing Akane out the window.
Although she initially told the ambulance crew that Akane fell out of the
window by mistake, she later admitted to a nurse that she had thrown her out
herself.
SAITAMA — The Saitama District Court sentenced a 21-year-old woman to 12 years
in prison Wednesday for starving her 3-year-old daughter to death in January
in an apartment she lived in with her boyfriend.
Misa Ichimura moved into the apartment of her boyfriend Yuichi Kiyohara, 24,
in April 2004, with her daughter Juri. Thinking that her boyfriend did not
like her daughter, Ichimura confined her in a closet with little food and beat
her. The child died of malnutrition on Jan 22, The boyfriend is separately
standing trial on the charge of murdering the girl.
TOKYO — A 31-year-old woman was given seven years in prison for physically
abusing her 3-year-old daughter over a one-month period, resulting in her
death, in Tokyo's Nerima Ward last year.
Rena Taiko and her friend Anri Nagumo, 31, who is on trial separately, beat
Taiko's daughter in the face, burned the girl's hip with a lighter and
inflicted other violence on the evening of Nov 24, according to the ruling.
The girl died from brain damage and other injuries on Dec 13.

Jean-Paul Steijns aurait voulu tuer ses trois enfants avant de
se suicider en raison des difficultés matérielles du foyer. Ce dernier a
initialement fait aux enquêteurs des déclarations "ubuesques, décalées et sans
grande cohérence", a expliqué le procureur de la République, Jacques Beaume.
Puis, il a fini par reconnaître avoir administré une "mixture médicamenteuse"
aux deux enfants issus d'une précédente relation de son épouse, une fillette de
huit ans et un garçon de sept ans. Concernant le bébé nouveau-né, dont il est le
père, "l'état de décomposition avancée du cadavre" ne permet pas de connaître
les causes précises de la mort, selon le procureur.
Le père de 36 ans a été écroué samedi soir après avoir été mis
en examen pour assassinats par empoisonnement et homicide volontaire. Les chefs
d'empoisonnement avec préméditation concernent les deux aînés tandis que celui
d'homicide volontaire concerne le bébé, a-t-on précisé de source judiciaire. La
mère des trois enfants, âgée de 26 ans, a été mise en examen pour "recel de
cadavres" et laissée en liberté sous contrôle judiciaire.

L'homme né en Seine-Saint-Denis et son épouse de 26 ans née à
Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône) avaient été interpellés et placés en garde à vue
jeudi à la suite de la découverte sur la terrasse de leur appartement
marseillais du corps de leur dernier enfant, un nouveau-né dont "ni la date
exacte de la naissance ni celle du décès n'ont pu être déterminées avec
précision". "Rien ne permet de dire si l'enfant est mort-né ou s'il était
viable", a dit M. Beaume. Le corps du bébé a été découvert par la police, venue
procéder à l'expulsion du couple après plusieurs loyers impayés. Le couple avait
quitté l'appartement deux semaines plus tôt pour se réfugier dans un hôtel de
Salon-de-Provence.
Vendredi, sur les indications du père, les corps des deux autres
enfants ont été trouvés dans une voiture à l'intérieur d'un garage à Marseille.
Selon le médecin légiste, "le décès remonte à plusieurs semaines", a précisé le
magistrat. Si l'autopsie a confirmé qu'"il n'y a pas de traces de coups de
couteau ou de coups de feu, le médecin légiste ne peut pas dire avec certitude
de quoi les deux enfants sont morts, compte tenu de l'état de décomposition
avancée du corps", a ajouté le procureur. "Nous sommes donc suspendus aux
analyses toxicologiques en cours dont les résultats seront connus dans deux à
trois semaines", a-t-il ajouté.
"Toujours une énigme"
Les enquêteurs n'ont pas encore établi le rôle exact joué dans
ce dossier par la mère, à qui son mari aurait pu aussi administrer des potions
médicamenteuses, et qui est apparue "sans émotion", "comme prostrée". "La
clandestinité de la mort des trois enfants et le fait qu'elle n'ait informé
personne ne sont pas suffisants pour que nous requiérions contre elle du chef
d'homicide volontaire ou d'empoisonnement", a cependant souligné le procureur.
La famille qui vivait dans un immeuble d'un quartier tranquille
du centre-ville, "ne relevait pas du quart-monde. L'homme était plutôt un escroc
dépassé, empruntant de l'argent à des amis ou à la famille". Son épouse, se
décrivant comme "soumise", croyait que son mari était "chef d'entreprise".
"C'est un dossier qui reste très partiellement une énigme", a conclu le
procureur.

Il a
quelques jours, un père a été retrouvé mort dans sa chambre avec une arme à
feu près de lui alors que le fils a été retrouvé dans une autre chambre. Le
drame s'est déroulé à Saint-Dominique, près de Saint-Hyacinthe.
Or, un point d'aide de l'organisme L'après-rupture, Ateliers pour les
liens père-enfants, Inc. est situé à seulement quelques kilomètres de
l'endroit où a eu lieu la tragédie.
L'après-rupture n'a malheureusement pas les moyens financiers pour se
faire suffisamment connaître auprès des pères à risque, ou pour faire un
travail de terrain qui pourrait suffire aux besoins grandissants de pères
divorcés ou séparés en difficulté.
Notre gouvernement ne reconnaît ni les besoins des hommes, ni leur souffrance
et refuse même de voir la détresse des hommes dont une partie mettent fin à
leur jour par suicide, à raison de plus de 1300 par an pour notre seule
province (près de la moitié d'entre eux suite à des ruptures conjugales), un
record mondial.
Depuis plus de sept année, L'après-rupture, porté à bout de bras par
ses seuls bénévoles, a aidé près de cinq mille pères à "s'en sortir" , le tout
sans droit aux subventions gouvernementales, et sans même la reconnaissance de
l'état.
Qui plus est, le lobby féministe au sein même de ce gouvernement s'est
appliqué à salir la réputation de cet organisme en tentant d'en faire un
groupe de "masculinistes haineux".
Si L'après-rupture avait été reconnu ou soutenu par l'État, qui sait si
ce drame de St-Dominique aurait quand même eu lieu, et si ce père dans la
force de l'âge et son fils à l'avenir prometteur seraient encore en vie!
En Montérégie, les circonstances entourant le drame familial survenu à
Saint-Dominique, près de Saint-Hyacinthe, commencent à s'éclaircir.
Un homme a abattu son fils avant de s'enlever la vie dans une résidence du
7e rang.
Dans la municipalité, personne ne pensait que Daniel Archambault irait
jusqu'à entraîner avec lui son fils Samuel, 18 ans, dans la mort.
Son beau-frère et associé, Viateur Gauthier, ne comprend toujours pas
pourquoi il a abattu son fils dans son sommeil, avant de s'enlever la vie,
tôt dimanche matin. «Je lui pardonnerai jamais ce qu'il a fait à son gars,
confie-t-il. Ça, je ne suis pas capable. Samuel, c'est l'enfant que tout le
monde rêve d'avoir. Il était parfait, ce petit gars-là.»
Depuis qu'il s'était séparé de son ex-conjointe, l'hiver dernier, Daniel
Archambault semblait dépressif. Le 16 octobre dernier, il avait été arrêté
par la Sûreté du Québec pour harcèlement criminel envers son ex-conjointe et
usage négligent d'une arme à feu. Il avait été traité dans l'aile
psychiatrique de l'hôpital Honoré-Mercier. On pensait à ce moment qu'il
représentait un plus grand danger pour lui-même que pour les autres. Puis,
on l'avait libéré.
L'homme avait remis volontairement ses armes à feu à la police. Les deux
carabines n'étaient pas enregistrées. Les policiers ignoraient qu'il
possédait une autre arme.
Il y a quinze ans ma femme est partie
avec les enfants et je ne la trouvais plus. J'ai contacté la police, la
famille. Personne ne me dit rien. Cinq jour plus tard, j'arrive de travailler
et il y a une auto de patrouille avec deux policiers dans l’entrée de ma
maison. Je croyais qu’ils avaient retrouvé ma femme et mes enfants, mais non.
Je suis en état d’arrestation pour violence conjugale. J’ai beau protester que
c’est impossible, je me retrouve incarcérer. Un des policiers qui ma arrêter
est venu me voir dans ma cellule avants de quitter sont quart de travaille. Il
me dit: « Tu ne comprends pas. Demains tu va passer devant le juge et Il va te
défendre d’approcher à moins de quinze cent pieds ta femme et tes enfants.
C’est exactement ce qui c’est passer. Mais la faut comprendre que ma femme est
retourner vivre à la maison. Alors je viens de perdre ma maison ! C’est très
simple, elle était aller consulté un avocat qui savait exactement comment le
système marche. 27000$ plus tard en frais d’avocat et 17 comparussions devant
la cours, moi aussi j’ai comprit. Je payais 1260$ par mois de pension et
Madame et son avocate n’arrêtaient pas de me poursuivre en cours pour une
augmentation de la pension. J’avais un salaire de 2100$ par mois et elle en
voulait 1500$. Quand j’ai vu que j’allais perdre en cours, j’ai congédié mon
trou-du-cul d’avocat en pleine cours et j’ai dit au juge que c’étais assez!
Que moi j’allais payer par bonne volonté 900$ par mois et pas un centime de
plus, si non je quittais mon emploi pour le bien-être social. J’ai finalement
eu gain de cause. Le juge à comprit que si je quittais mon emploi, la pension
tombait à 0$.
C’est un système complément fait pour la
femme. Les vieux juges avec leurs stupide de vieilles notions devraient être
radier de la cours du Québec. Ils ce fou de l’homme qui va faire faillite et
détruire sont crédit. Pourtant si l’homme veut sen sortir, il va avoir besoins
de son crédit. Moi je me suis ramasser avec 34000$ de dettes après cette
séparation et une pension. 13 ans plus tard j’ai me suis sorti du trou. Je me
retrouve à 40 ans avec 7000$ de bien personnel, mais sans dettes. J’en ai
manger du kraft dîner avec mon budget de 80$
par semaine pour pouvoir m’acheter le strict nécessaire. Une chance que
j’avais des parents capables de m’endosser à la banque et même faire des prêts
à leurs noms pour moi, cars je n’airais pas pu m’en sortir. J’aimerais bien
voir le juge en faire de même.
La cours détruit des vies sans ce
soucier ce que l’homme va vivre pendant des années.
Je suis un homme qui n’a plus les moyens
financiers pour vivre une vie simplement normale depuis plus de quinze ans!
Mon ex-femme? Elle à 3 maisons et un motorisé.
La deuxième maison, elle la eu de l’homme qu’elle ma quitté pour. Elle la
détruit en cours comme moi ! C’est tellement facile, cars elle connaît le
système de la cours du Québec.
